Back To School Fashion Trends For Fall 2015

By Alexia Gonzalez on August 3, 2015

As the much needed yet not long enough summer vacation winds down, it’s that time of the year again when you have to gather yourself after a relaxing hiatus and get back on the school grind.

Sadly, this means that you’ll have to trade in your lazy days of sun bathing and pool diving for early morning classes and afternoons of homework (sighs). But believe it or not, the thought of going back to school doesn’t have to be so unpleasant.

Think about it, with the return of the fall season and new school year comes the revival of some of our favorite TV shows, pumpkin flavored everything, and, perhaps most importantly, back-to-school fashion trends.

Although any excuse to purchase a bunch of new outfits is always a good thing, the fact that these items are for the purpose of school may make you less enthusiastic, especially when you need to shop smart and on a budget.

With all of the upcoming fall and back to school trends you definitely don’t want to be left behind in fashion terms. Well fear not ladies, for I am here to clue you in on some of the season’s most necessary back-to-school fashion trends needed to score an A+ this fall.

Throwback Weekdays

One major trend returning this fall will be ’70s and ’90s era denim. This includes a lot of high waist bottoms, wide legged jeans, and crop tops. To give a retro inspired outfit that extra oomph (as well as warmth), try throwing a scarf on over a crop top.

Remember, you will still be in a classroom setting so make sure that your crop tops aren’t overly cropped. Try to keep your belly button concealed with a higher bottom or longer crop than you would wear out on the weekends. Velvet fabrics will also be making a comeback once the cooler months start to roll in.

Oversized Tote

If you’re a busy girl with tons of after-school plans, opt for an oversized satchel instead of a backpack! They’re just as good at holding all your books, but look more sleek and stylish. Totes are a cool and simple way to carry all of your books, keys, snacks and other essentials to get you through your school day. Not to mention that a minimalist tote looks super chic with any school day ensemble.

Ankle Jeans

If your school starts in the last weeks of August, pulling on a pair of jeans can feel totally agonizing in the summer heat. Ease your way into fall fashion by donning some cute, cropped pants instead! Every girl needs a pair of skinny cropped jeans in their back to school wardrobe.

Because of the slim hem, they’re perfect with heels or booties. Not only are skinny cropped jeans a no-brainer for back to school because you can wear them everywhere, they tuck into boots with ease, which means that they will remain just as stylish and useful for the even colder winter months.

Shine On, You Crazy School Girl

Prepare to be seeing tons of luxe shimmer—a sheer, shimmery material— in basically every aspect of the fashion game, from accessories to ensembles.

Patterns and Prints

Many a funky print will be making its way to your nearest classroom. From multicolored ombres to mixed prints, overly graphic items will be totally in vogue this year. Deep red and plaid will find their way onto many a garment, as well.

Trendy Sneakers

Trade your summer flip-flops in for a pair of cool, casual sneakers! Sneakers are perfect for any on the run yet still fashionable ensemble since they look great with everything from a flirty dress to boyfriend jeans. Back-to-school means a lot of walking around campus, so a comfortable pair of sneakers is a must buy.

Vibrant Colors

After months of spring and summer brights, we’re ready for fall’s darker hues, but that doesn’t mean we’re done with vibrant shades entirely. Pastels and neons will be hanging on this fall and winter. Don’t be afraid to invest in colorful sweaters, coats and cold-weather gear to liven up your darker looks.

Chambray All Day

A chambray statement piece can take a girl anywhere so you’d better believe it’s back for another season. There’s something blue for everyone, including chambray jackets and skirts and pants. Try adding chambray pieces to your fall looks, or go for a full-on chambray look.
